The LTC was established through the generosity of the Bush Foundation. A planning grant as well as a later, larger grant launched the center. This was followed by an endowment that supports the Humphrey Doermann Professor of Liberal Learning chair, which is held by the Coordinator of the LTC. This endowed chair honors Humphrey Doermann, former president of the Bush Foundation. The Bush Foundation
